Watersports: adrenaline loves Mykonos!

If you or your friends have already been in Mykonos, you surely know the “musts” that will help you collect unforgettable moments. Among them is the sacred sanctuary of the nearby Delos Island, the Windmills overlooking the port, the most photographed Little Venice neighborhood with its famous bars and restaurants, the Armenistis lighthouse – and the list goes on. But the real, rare beauty of the island lies on its amazing coastline, with the endless gold sandy beaches and turquoise waters which can offer much more than swimming, sunbathing and dancing in the beach bars.

Just to know, almost all the organized beaches in Mykonos have their own water sport center, fully equipped to cover a spectacular range of activities and make the island look like a huge water park!

You can start by trying the breathtaking experience of scuba or wreck diving, available on almost every organized beach. Professional divers will help you discover the wonders of the underwater world, which can create a lifetime memory. On the other hand, if you are not a real fan of the dark blue deeps, try snorkeling, a much easier but almost equally magical version of diving.

For an overdose of adrenaline flow, take wake-surfing lessons. This is a very exciting activity where you trail behind a speed boat riding its wake and then ride the waves like a dolphin jumping in and out the foaming surface of the waves! It is a sport very similar to wakeboarding, which is a combination of water skiing, snowboarding and surfing techniques. As for water skiing, it is the only aqua sport that cannot be easily enjoyed in Mykonos as it requires mirror-surface seas; and this is not the case in this area of the Aegean.

For original high-flyers there is also the hydroflying, where with the help of the flyboard device you can fly above the waves and have a 360 view of your location. Moreover, to take a walk on the most extreme side of water activities you can get attached to a specially designed parachute towed behind a boat for an unforgettable parasailing fun ride; or go kiteboarding where you can harness the power of the wind with a large power kite.

Finally, there is the all-time classic windsurfing. Mykonos is a top destination for surfing pros as it is also known as the island of the winds. The famous “meltemi”, a strong north wind usually peaks during August, giving the sport’s lovers a really hard time!

However, no matter what water activity you choose, make sure to strictly follow the instructions of the trainers and wear the proper safety equipment.
