Sports-time in Mykonos
In Mykonos, adrenaline runs at extremely high rates, day, and night, from May to October. Many of its organized beaches, especially those on the southern part of the island, which is more protected from the strong meltemi winds, feature Sports Centers for those who believe that holidays should be a lot more than just resting under the sun and slowly swimming.
The island offers a great variety of adventurous water sports for every taste and… stamina. The good thing is that most of these activities don’t require any professional skills or experience and are allowed also for kids. The bad thing is that water sports do not tolerate carelessness and must always be done under the guidance and supervision of the instructors. Like any sea people, the Mykonians know that the sea is not to be trifled with, no matter how tempting this may be.
If for example you want to be a windsurfer, please avoid surfing on the northern coast as its strong winds can be tamed by professionals only. On the other hand,
there are beaches like Elia -one of the longest beaches in Mykonos with fine sand and crystal-clear waters- where most of the summer the wind comes from the shore, so the water is calm providing perfect conditions for watersports.
Beginners and experts will enjoy waterskiing, wakeboarding and barefoot skiing with high quality equipment and speed boats. Experienced boat drivers can also take you on a tube ride, sofa ride or banana boat ride, which is safe for all the family. Rides can range from extreme to easy.
Neighboring Elia beach is Kalafatis beach, also featuring a fun water sports Center, for activities like extreme tubing, wake board, water ski, jet skiing, parachute gliding, scuba diving etc. In every organized beach with water sports centers, you will be guided through it by qualified instructors who will make sure that you will be well taught to end excited but safe! Water sports and games include the famous “Banana”, tubes, surfing, wind surfing, SUP, wakeboard, kneeboard, diving, flyboarding -the hottest extreme sport- and much, much more!
Apart from the aquatic activities there are a lot more things to do in Mykonos, offering fun and excitement. Horse riding is one of them while there is also the possibility to rent soccer, football, and tennis courts for private tournaments!
